Knives and Knighsticks

What shade of lipstick goes with bloodstains?
Sadie and Zoey, best friends and sharers of shoes, have both lost their jobs for Very Bad Reasons. Sadie ditched her lawyer boyfriend (who happened to be her boss) and Zoey followed her nose into a story that shattered her burgeoning career as a journalist.

When the story that destroyed Zoey’s career lands her next to a dead body, Sadie’s new job at the police station makes for the perfect spy. Unravelling the mystery proves to be more dangerous than expected, and the two find themselves wedged between romance, organized crime and deciding what shoes go best with a stakeout.

I was given the opportunity to beta read this debut novel by the authors. It’s always fun to discover a new author, but I have to say, it’s even better to discover them at the beginning of their journey.

K. Lew and C. R. Lockhart have been writing for years, ‘Knives and Knightsticks’ is the first of their projects that they are sharing with the world.

Our main characters Zoey and Sadie, have been together for all shades of good and bad times throughout their lives. When one is in need, the other will be there without a second thought.

This book follows the best friends as they find themselves in a perilous situation when Zoey’s job lands her next to a dead body. When she finds out this has something to do with the story that blacklisted her from all reputable news outlets, she is unable to let things be and ropes Sadie in as she starts to investigate.

I loved the friendship in this book. We all have a chosen family- the people who so deeply impact our lives and don’t share our DNA- that we would go above and beyond for. This book is just that.

There is plenty of eye candy to appreciate, *insert squeals of joy here*, and the sweetness of new budding romances. However, this book reminds us that while we all appreciate a good-looking man, we don’t need them to save the day! These ladies are fun, sassy, and strong. I really appreciated the badass feminism they had going on.

Knives and Knightsticks has a little bit of everything – sisterhood, romance, excitement, and mystery! It will keep you turning the pages.

If you are looking for a fun, romantic mystery that will have you guessing- this may just be the book for you! This debut comes out on March 19, 2021.
